Post Conference Training at C2D2 Conference 2007

Here is an opportunity that you will want to make the most of. While the Canadian Conference in Dialogue and Deliberation hosts it national conference in Vancouver on Nov 12-14 (www.c2d2.ca), some of North America's best trainers in dialogue methodologies will be in town. Dialogue Programs is hosting them at our campus and they are offering a number of wonderful sessions at incredible prices -- AND all proceeds will go to building the Canadian Community for Dialogue and Deliberation across the nation! Information on how to register and prices are listed below the program descriptions.

Accurate Listening
November 16, 1:30 - 4:30 SFU's Wosk Centre for Dialogue
Dr. Eamonn Gill
The approach aims to increase participants' abilities to clarify a speaker's intended message in the presence of distraction created by the mind's tendency to interpret and mold information to fit preexisting schemas.

Building Trust in Community Consultations: Complexity, Authenticity and Inclusion
November 15, 9:00 - 4:30 pm SFU's Wosk Centre for Dialogue
Catherine Martell and Ken Homer
This workshop offers exploration of several models, processes and practices for cultivating trust and inclusion that foster authentic community engagement, with a deep inquiry into why, for whom & to what end we seek to engage community.

Consensus Workshop Methodology
November 15 1:30 - 4:30 pm SFU Harbour Centre
John Miller
How can diverse groups reach authentic "consensus" on large, complex issues in as little as an hour or two? The most powerful and integrated group process tool a skilled facilitator can use is the Consensus Workshop Method. It is designed to tap into various learning/communication styles. It can easily adapt to multiple languages. It allows a single facilitator to engage large groups. The Consensus Workshop Method actually works better with a more diverse group than homogeneous. Most importantly, it gradually builds a "safe space" within which ideas can be fully appreciated - no more "parking lot".

Deliberation: The What, Why, and How of Doing It Purposefully and Productively
November 15 9:00 am - 4:30 pm SFU's Wosk Centre for Dialogue
Sara Ross and Jan Inglis
The workshop will use a climate-change issue as experiential content, with an interactive blend of short presentations, experiential exercises, and reflective debriefing of the exercises.

Engagement of Multi-Stakeholders in Collaborative Inquiry for Addressing Complex Issues
November 15 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
The Ginger Group Collaborative
This experiential session explores the power of collaborative inquiry - as a means for transforming culture and strengthening organizations and communities.

Engaging Communities and Organizations for Wise Action / Lasting Impact: How to Host, Convene, Design & Facilitate Meaningful Conversations Around Complex Issues
November 15 9 am - 4;30 pm and November 16 9:00 am to 12 noon SFU's Wosk Centre for Dialogue
Myriam LaBerge, Brenda Chaddock
Participants will gain a working knowledge of the principles, steps and practices of four core group processes: dialogue, World Café, Open Space and Appreciative Inquiry. Also, they will gain an understanding and practice the different roles of host, convener, designer, facilitator and participant as well as explore and experiment with how to blend those various tools to apply them to their own issues and projects.

Focused Conversation Methodology
November 15 9:00 am to 12 noon SFU's Harbour Centre Campus
John Miller
How do humans think clearly and reach well-considered conclusions?
Successful facilitators around the world use the Focused Conversation Method. A deep understanding of the Focused Conversation Method will improve your group work and transform your approach to all interactions. Skillfully applied, it helps a facilitator layer questions in a way that evokes dialogue, allowing it to emerge safely and constructively. This short workshop will introduce you to the Focused Conversation Method interactively, using a combination of demonstrations, theory, stories, Q&A, and exploring uses together. A short manual will be included and additional resources will be available.
SURE-Fire Meetings: A Dialogue Approach to Effective, Consensus-Based Decision Making
November 15 and 16 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
Peter Noteboom
This workshop explores how to make meetings an opportunity for dialogue, learning, consensus-building and getting things done.

The Power of Presence
November 16 9:00 am to 12 noon SFU's Wosk Centre for Dialogue
Jan Inglis
Improve your capacity of awareness. This workshop will introduce methods to assist being fully present and tracking our inner dynamics so we can articulate what is going on inside us to ourselves and others.
